Our Story

In the 2018-2019 school year our district participated, as one of 16 districts in the province, in a process called Equity Scan. The purpose of the scan was to engage students, parents, educators, and communities in examining our own structures, policies, and processes specific to improving educational outcomes for Indigenous students. We used this as an opportunity to begin important research which included our students, parents and teachers. This research ensured that the decision making for future programming was lead by the stories and voices of key stakeholders. 

One of the first concrete actions from the Equity Scan was the implementation of an Honouring Diversity module, approximately 30 hours, that would be offered to all grade 8 students across the district in the 2020-2021 school year. As this is the first year implementing the course, we know that reflections from this year will inform that course going forward. We would like to recognize the hard work, professional learning, and commitment to the goal of Honouring Diversity within our district and our communities.
